In Art, Craft and Design we believe passionately that every student should have the opportunity to discover their skill and preferred media to help to inspire their own work and ideas. All students will be given the chance to explore and develop so that they can create work with both sense and meaning.
The Art schemes in key stage three are constructed in such a way that allows students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills through a spiral curriculum. This means that all students will revisit and build on previous experiences, year on year.
They will be introduced to a variety of media and styles that will allow them the opportunity to investigate and further develop their chosen media and processes.
By the end of Key stage three all students will have a better understanding of the work that excites them and helps them to progress independently towards their own area of Art, Craft & Design, with the potential of continuing their work into GCSE.
Students follow the AQA ‘Fine Art’ curriculum, which gives them the opportunity to work through the creative process and experiment with a wide variety of media. They will investigate the work of other artists from different eras and genres to help them to understand how and why the artists worked, as well as inspiring and influencing their own creations.
Their coursework is marked as 60% of their final grade and their exam sketchbook and final piece constitutes 40% of their overall grade.
