The Rationale
Assessments in all subjects are used to interpret a student’s current learning, skills and understanding. This will direct the subject teacher to help identify the support they need to move the student’s learning and progress forward. We have our school vision which defines that students will learn to be independent. We have designed our KS3 curriculum and assessment to ensure our students strive for excellence.
There is a KS3 criteria for each subject which identifies what is expected of each student at each stage of their learning. The criteria is based on the idea of the progression of knowledge and skills within each subject. A series of progress level thresholds within each subject are used to measure and report on student progress. These thresholds relate to subject-specific knowledge and skills acquired in Years 7, 8 and 9.
Each of the 5 progress thresholds with a definition of the stage can be found below. We identify secure as meeting expectations and then identify those who have gone beyond this or are still working towards this secure understanding of the Key Stage 3 curriculum.
