Lesson time
Students are taught careers education throughout the curriculum as part of a spiral curriculum. For example students are taught in a variety of lessons skills and attitudes that are transferable for post 16 education and employment. In year 9 students are provided lesson time to decide upon KS4 options.
Visit to Forest school careers fair
Students in year 10 visit a careers fair at Forest school in order to have the opportunity to speak with over 90 employers and universities, about future pathways.
Visit to Leyton 6th form
Students are given a tour of Leyton 6th Form College with practical experience of local 6th form provisions. This is followed by an interview day where students complete an application form and are given a conditional offer. The interview day takes place in year 11.
Lunchtime college sessions and taster sessions
Students are given opportunities to attend lunchtime sessions to hear from college and 6th form staff, in order to raise their awareness of post 16 providers and the choice of available courses. The colleges also provide taster sessions for students in subjects that are not available at GCSE such as Anthropology, Government and Politics or Sociology.
Careers interviews with the careers advisor
Groups of students will have a careers interview as part of their Year 9,10 and 11 careers programme, with an action plan provided to guide students with their planning and decision making.
Careers and college application “Drop down day”
This day provides a carousel delivery of 5 sessions from local colleges and 6th form college providers. Students learn:
- how to apply to colleges, 6th forms and 6th form colleges.
- about the various courses available to them
- how to prepare for an interview for college/6th form
- the range of future career pathways and choices
- how to write a personal statement
College Roadshow
A range of colleges, 6th forms and 6th form colleges attend an evening session at school to provide students with advice and information on course offered at their college/6th form/6th form college. The event is attended by all year 11 students.
Time For Us Evening
A parents/carers evening workshop which outlines the KS4 careers programme with an emphasis on guiding students on their post 16 choices. Parents/carers learn about the advice given to students concerning future choices and how they can seek further advice. It is delivered by the head of CCPSHE, the local careers adviser and deputy head.
Follow up careers interviews and monitoring interviews
Students will receive a follow up interview with the careers adviser, if needed, to help with post 16 choices.
All year 11 students are also given an individual interview by the head of CCPSHE for Careers to monitor every students applications and offer further support if required.
