A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to students and/or their parents/carers:

Students are taught careers education throughout the curriculum as part of a spiral curriculum. For example students are taught in a variety of lessons skills and attitudes that are transferable for post 16 education and employment. In year 9 students are provided lesson time to decide upon KS4 options.
Students in year 10 visit a careers fair at Forest school in order to have the opportunity to speak with over 90 employers and universities, about future pathways.
Students are given a tour of Leyton 6th Form College with practical experience of local 6th form provisions. This is followed by an interview day where students complete an application form and are given a conditional offer. The interview day takes place in year 11.
Students are given opportunities to attend lunchtime sessions to hear from college and 6th form staff, in order to raise their awareness of post 16 providers and the choice of available courses. The colleges also provide taster sessions for students in subjects that are not available at GCSE such as Anthropology, Government and Politics or Sociology.
Groups of students will have a careers interview as part of their Year 9,10 and 11 careers programme, with an action plan provided to guide students with their planning and decision making.
This day provides a carousel delivery of 5 sessions from local colleges and 6th form college providers. Students learn:
A range of colleges, 6th forms and 6th form colleges attend an evening session at school to provide students with advice and information on course offered at their college/6th form/6th form college. The event is attended by all year 11 students.
A parents/carers evening workshop which outlines the KS4 careers programme with an emphasis on guiding students on their post 16 choices. Parents/carers learn about the advice given to students concerning future choices and how they can seek further advice. It is delivered by the head of CCPSHE, the local careers adviser and deputy head.
Students will receive a follow up interview with the careers adviser, if needed, to help with post 16 choices.
All year 11 students are also given an individual interview by the head of CCPSHE for Careers to monitor every students applications and offer further support if required.
Through the delivery of CCPSHE students learn skills of personal self reflection, self assessment, communication, team work and how to plan for future events. CCPSHE lessons help support access to information, guidance and self reflection from an early age. By developing certain skills students are better aware of decisions at later transition stages. Careers education at an early stage can also be seen to raise personal aspirations and improve motivation to participate in education or training as part of life long development.
Students further develop their personal skills in a more advanced way. Through Careers information linked to personal strengths, skills and attitudes, it enables students in making realistic and well informed decisions about future careers, courses and pathways. Students also get to complete at Careers project via google classroom, where they explore differences between jobs and careers, the different types of jobs and different types of careers, as well as factors that affect earnings and the effects of discrimination at work.
Students spend time in lessons looking at options post for Key Stage 4, and the earlier years work on self-awareness and decision making is developed. Students will also begin to look at college, 6th form and 6th form colleges prospectus and university prospectuses in order to understand in some detail, what their future pathways and future options could be. Students also learn to dispel myths about GCSEs and future learning and employment. Some year 9 students will also begin their careers interview with the impartial careers adviser.
Students begin to explore post 16 options in greater detail and taster sessions are provided at local 6th form colleges. Students begin to draft a personal statement ahead of year 11 post 16 applications. Students are also provided with opportunities to visit careers fairs, where they are exposed to a number of employment and education providers including universities. Students are given a further careers interview.
The main focus for year 11 is on completing application forms for post 16 education. The first term, all CCPSHE lessons are dedicated to this. During this first term careers interviews, college roadshow and lunchtime sessions take place as well as students being able to visit post 16 providers open days and attending any interviews. In the 2nd term students develop a CV and look at how to apply for part time work. A more detailed outline for year 11 students has been identified further on in this policy.
